Eco House Weekend

Eco House Weekend

The Eco House (open house) weekend held over the weekend 12 -13 June was a great success. We had over 250 visits to the 11 houses and are very pleased with how this hugely worthwhile event took place!   Furthermore we managed to cover the costs of running it so are delighted!  We had very positive feedback from both participating householders who opened their doors and the visitors who were all seriously interested in taking measures to reduce energy use, so a great deal of valuable dialogue resulted. As the aim is to do something to support sustainable improvements to local houses we hope it has inspired much positive action in the future.

We need to thank all those who help to make it a success, including the four local authorities who gave their support and help to promote the event.

But that is not the end of the story. We held our debate entitled ‘Building Conservation or Carbon Reduction?’  on the 22nd June attended by 25 people where we explored the issues further and thought about next steps.  We had a lively debate and had a range of expertise in the room which made for a good discussion.

We are also building on the interest shown at the event in VICTERI’s services and look forward to seeing much practical action taking place over the coming year.  Connections made through the weekend have already resulted in bookings and inquiries for energy masterplans and surveys.

Linda and visitors plunged the depths of her cellar in Henry Road Hackney to inspect underfloor insulation of the ground floor and of course the fine grey water storage tanks. Internal solid wall insulation as well as solar hot water and PV cells on the roof was on show.

VICTERI’s own Norman Beddington in full flow discussing the virtues of internal cladding following a tour of his property in Haringay where the visitors saw the finished article.

Harriet impressed visitors with the can do approach that has transformed their Hackney property over a number of years which also incorporates some top quality examples of timber flooring reuse  including timber from an old basketball court and a railway carriage!
